back in our day, we got 22 inches of snow!

Everytime the weatherman is forecasting a huge snow storm, you usually assume they are hyping it up, and we'll get a dusting at best. Well, way to go all you Al Rokers, because we sure did get slammed this weekend in Annapolis.

Some of us tried to get out and got stuck in the middle of our street, but thankfully neighbors pushed us into a parking spot. Some were stuck house-sitting across the river, lonely and without coffee. Another roommate was far away in the south, at a friends' wedding- boy did she miss out :)

We had a 204 night- 101 + 103, where we hung out with our next door neighbors. We made all the appetizers we could, wrapped presents, made some crafts and watched Julie & Julia. Great night.

Now, we will try to dig our way home for Christmas...

...and we're back

we're going to finish the year strong with some fun end of the year posts. But for today, let us recap our annual McKendree Christmas party. What a ball! We can only hope we get featured in a magazine next year....

The 101 girls

The entire 204 crew!

We're pretty sure Finlay had the best time at the party...

chocolate pretzels were the favors this year...

hoot hoot

usually our owls pour salt n peppa:
it's turning up cupcakes here at mckendree. it's wedding season, and we are often the bakers. it's a delicious process.

rach whipped up the owls (they are our fav birds here at mcK) with chocolate cup cake base, pipped on their fur with chocolate frosting, added opened oreos with resse pieces for eyes and noses. A-dorable!

thriftiness is the mother of all invention

so there are a few things we are good at here at mckendree...saving money may quite possibly be our finest.

some recent things we have done to help in this not-so-great recession:

  • selling clothing and household items to our local consignment shop. we'll let you know how much we make.
  • we like to do street drive bys. tonight we found a large, awesome, like-new carpet from our neighbors. it will adorn our cement basement floors: no more cold feet for our basement dweller!
  • we have begun to fall in love with shoppers grocery store. they now do double and triple coupons. tonight, yes tonight, rach and sus saved a combined $42 off their groceries just in clipped coupons. pretty darn good.

how you doin' saving?

we were in hibernation, okay?

We know, it's bad. We've neglected our blog. We've probably lost our few, faithful followers, but we've come up with a new strategy: write more. Okay, but seriously, instead of only posting on momentous occasions, we will now settle for the mundane, just like everyone else's blog. That may have been a low blow, but seriously, why do parents blog every time their child sneezes? If they can write about ANYTHING, we're going to adopt that policy too. (Did that sound bitter, it wasn't supposed to)

And in case you hadn't noticed, the blog got a facelift, courtesy of cutest blogontheblock.com. And since the last post, we've lost and gained a roomie. Out with the Anna in with the Brittany! We miss you Nan.

As socialites in Annapolis, it's our common place to comment on current events around the city:

  • The new Shoppers, in our opinion, is definitely worth checking out. Less like a scary warehouse, more like a slightly cheaper version of Giant. GREAT international section, closest to our house, and YES a Redbox.
  • Did you know: Kohl's is coming in where Value City was...we have mixed opinions on it, hopefully it will spruce up that crappy shopping center.
  • Latest neighborhood hate crime: our new roomie's windshield was shattered last weekend, we told her it was just a hazing thing we do to all our new roommates...but she didn't think it was funny. But seriously, some punk kid jumped on her hood and kicked it...bummer.
  • Out of consideration for the longevity of great stores in Annapolis, we implore you to go buy things from Anthropologie...
  • In the spirit of supporting local business, go buy things from Oz Consignments, and you may see some of our old things there :)

"we were OJ simpson"

alternative title to this entry (you can choose your fav):
"Going to Giant may have been easier, but a lot less exciting"

So on an average night on mckendree, we had played a round of the office dvd game, collecting shrute bucks on the way to michael scott's office and were done comparing an ailing roommate to beth from "little women", when our sweet tooth came a callin'.

we had purchased perfectly good ice cream for a new years party down the road, but in the first mistake of 2009, left it in their freezer, inside a locked apartment on a second floor. with no spare keys under any welcome mats, our options were limited, and gabe being the smallest member and easiest to coerce, we parked on the sidewalk, doned masks and stole some ice cream back.

to make up for a lack of posts, here are too many pictures documenting it all...

rach getting pumped after having the flu...

sus, flash light in hand, after parking on the sidewalk
gabe and rach assessing the window
it was small

we did it
our door looks a lot cuter after tonight...
